Description
This gift advocates for Safety and Justice for Working Women. In Bangladesh, many tea garden workers have the lowest daily income in the world. Women also face discrimination in terms of social status, legal recognition and lack access to the services they need. As well as working long, hard days, women carry the heavy burden of unpaid household care work, too – and face the risk of violence and abuse. With support from Oxfam, organisations like Breaking the Silence are working with some of the world’s most vulnerable women to ensure their voices are heard. Women are gaining the courage and confidence to speak up and realise their rights. “There has been some change in me… previously I had fear inside my mind. Now there is no fear.” – Munni Nuniya. This example reflects the types of projects that could be funded when you donate through Unwrapped. Valuing Women’s Work. The story outlined in this gift is an example of the type of project your donation will help fund. All the money you donate when buying this gift will support projects in the Valuing Women’s Work category. Oxfam’s Valuing Women’s Work programmes support women to push for respect, fairness and dignity at work, and to end gender-based violence in the workplace. This means pressuring local and national government for lasting changes that will make things equal for women, as well as ending discrimination and harassment through law. Your donation supports Oxfam and our partners in making work fairer for women across the world, including unpaid care workers here in the UK. Thank you so much for your generous donation!
